We celebrated our second Thanksgiving over the long weekend in the only way we knew how – among friends with lots of food and board games. Instead of trying to cook the turkey ourselves this year, we decided to order the meal from Whole Foods Market, a grocer specializing in natural and organic foods. Organic is in, particularly in this part of the country. So we ended up paying five times the regular price for organic turkey and mashed potatoes. The store was filled with people doing last minute shopping to prepare, for many Americans, the most important meal of the year. I’m still amazed at how big a deal Thanksgiving is here. Many people we knew were flying back to their home cities just for Thanksgiving. Those among our friends staying in Seattle were invited over ...
After dinner we settled down for a short while before starting on the board games. We had a 6 player game of Settlers, one of our favorites. By the time we finished, it was about 10:30pm – just an hour and a half from Black Friday, the biggest shopping spree of the year. Cristina and Stacy were planning to brave the crowds in the mad Black Friday rush from midnight to 11am. They prepared for the long trip up to Seattle Premium Outlets with temperatures expected to drop below freezing. We wished them luck and as soon as they were out the door we opened up the box containing another board game – Risk. We didn’t finish that game until about 4am. By the time I was preparing to go to bed at about 6am, Cristina was on her way home from the Outlets. She was home just briefly before heading off to Bellevue Square again with Stacy. Cristina's stamina for shopping amazes me to this day :P. The rest of Friday was spent recovering.
i wanted to finally tackle my fear of color and so i purchased some paint from our local hardware store and said goodbye to our white walls ...

we really enjoy our game nights and our house seems to be the preferred place for them these days :-) ...
